Probably one of the most complex games released on the SNES, Far East of Eden Zero came with a real time clock and an SPC7110 chip for graphics decompression. I am not a Japanese speaker, but according to Tomato's fan translation page (see link in the bibiliography), it is like a cross between Earthbound and Chrono Trigger, with lots of bizarre humour.
