Legend Of Zelda, The: A Link to the Past Review by MD Pontiac Few will not have heard of the Zelda series. It is one of Nintendo's best sellers across all formats, right up till the N64 today. Zelda III is commonly thought of as the best in the series, and the best Super Nintendo game ever!! Better than Chrono Trigger? Better than Secret of Mana? Many think so... I remember reading the last issue of a popular magazine down here in the UK, called Super Play. I had collected it for a long time and was sad it was to be stopped, indeed it was a sign of the times - the SNES was fading out of the public eye. However, what was particularly poinant about this issue was not only that it was the last ever, but that inside it had a "Top 100" of all SNES games. At the top was none other than Zelda 3. They voted it the best game ever on the machine, giving it 98% overall. Then, to cap it off, I just recently saw a review on a large Nintendo website that had exactly the same opinion - Zelda 3 is the best SNES game ever!! I was slightly surprised, but not shocked... You see Zelda 3 is a fine game, a mix of action, rpg, adventure and puzzle, so there's something for almost everyone. You play Link as usual, and defeat Ganon and his minions to restore Hyrule from the clutches of evil, rescuing your princess along the way. It's a very long game, so it will last you a goof while. There's a lot of perplexing puzzle sections involved aswell, so you really will have to have your wits about you to complete it :) The soundtrack is excellent also, with a variety of Nintendo's award winning ballads from the game available for download in the MIDI section. Overall, perhaps not the single best SNES game ever, but it definately ranks up there with the best. Graphics: 88 Gameplay: 93 Sound: 93 Lifespan: 92 Overall Rating: 92 |
