Super Mario World

title

Super Mario World in an earlier form had characteristics that were similar to Super Mario Bros. 3. Many of these shots were in video game magazines prior to the release of the Super Famicom

Super Mario World was in all likelihood the first game developed for the Super Famicom. Early versions of the game had more Super Mario Bros. 3 style elements. Other images of beta versions Super Mario World are floating around on the Internet, but I choose only to post things that I can confirm the origin.

The following screens are from the September-October 1990 issue of Nintendo Power (thanks to Retromags for the scans).

The early SMW appears to have had Mushroom houses, and much less rigid course pathsThis swimming level does not appear in the final game. Also note the SMB3 style Koopa

This screen looks similar to a typical SMW castle, though the block is straight out of SMB3A sky level, though unlike any in the final game. Note the different Fire Flower powerup graphic
