SA-1

The SA-1 chip, which stands for "Super Acceleration 1", is a supplementary 65C816 processor (the same processor the SNES uses), with an increased clock speed of 10.74 MHz. Though in theory this chip can be used to remove common SNES problems like slowdown, it seems that it was more often used as a way to thwart copy protection. Perhaps the best known games that use this coprocessor are Super Mario RPG, Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Kirby Super Star.
