DSPx The DSPx series of chips are based on the NEC µPD7720. DSP stands for "digital signal processor". These sets of chips do mathematical calculations that would otherwise be too taxing on the SNES CPU. Most famously, it aids in doing Mode 7 rotation and scaling for games like Super Mario Kart and Pilotwings. DSP1
