A working title for this game was "Jellybean" according to a Super NES preview in Nintendo Power issue 24.  A sequel called "Jelly Boy 2" was in the works, but never finished.  The Japanese title is a great example of Engrish.  In Europe, there was a game called "Jelly Boy" which has absolutely no relation to this game.
