Released in 1995, this marked the second attempt by EA Sports to bring Soccer (Football for you people outside of North America) to the Super NES. Personally, I prefer hockey and football (Canadian and American) to soccer. However, this is a video game, so perhaps things can be different. FIFA Soccer 96 features teams from all around the world, so you can play with your own home team.

First thing to note, this game uses a 3/4 overhead view, similar to EA's NBA Live games. The controls are pretty simple; A to shoot, B to pass/change players, Y to lob the ball/slide, and R to run. To make more powerful shots, you hold down the button longer (there is a gauge to tell you the strength). Making free throws is pretty easy - it gives you a nice target cursor to allow you to aim.

One thing to note about this game is that it is real time. Perhaps that is the excuse for the slow pace things go. The animation is jerky, but not near as bad as EA's earlier games. The papers all look the same, and are devoid of any detail. The sound effects are minimal, and the crowd noise is muted. Perhaps the thing I disliked the most is that the computer controlled players on your team tend to follow the same paths that your character does. This is much like old NES games like RBI Baseball.

Perhaps if I gave this one more time, I would enjoy it more. However, this is a very bland sports game, that doesn't give you much of a reason to be excited.
