Evan G screen01.png One of the last games Square made for Nintendo has proven to be a classic. Demand for it was so great that it was re-released on the Playstation (on Final Fantasy Chronicles). This game saw the meeting between Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest creators. For instance, the character designer, Akira Toriyama, did the character designs for the Dragon Quest games (as well as the Dragon Ball cartoon). This game also includes multiple endings, all depending on when you pass the game. To do this, you must complete the game regularly, then start a new game with your old save data (use New Game +). At Lucca's transportation devise, there is a sparkling object, which will send you to the final boss. snes_central@yahoo.ca 3|screen04.jpg The story surrounds Chrono and several other characters that join him thoughout the game. At the start of the game, a girl he meets (Marle) accidentally sets off a warp zone that sends her back into the past. Chrono goes after her, and starts an adventure that takes him to many eras of time, in the past, present and the future. One of the neat things is that things you do in the past affect what happens in the future. Although the advertisements that Square put out claim there are 15 endings, I believe the total amount is around 13. 6|10/10 1|The graphics in this game are some of the best on the Snes. The backgounds are vivid and are full of tiny details. The characters actually look like people, unlike most rpgs by Square. The enemies are all animated, and actually move around to strike you, unlike many other menu driven rpgs released on the snes. The spell and tech moves are also visually impressive. This game is full of life, and it still stands as one of the best looking 2-D RPGs ever released. 7|10/10 1|Again, as with the graphics, the sound is top notch. Each enemy has its own cry and the attack sound effects are well done. The music is excellent, and always fits the situation to set the mood. There is no complaints in this department. 8|9.5/10 1|The controls in this game are probably the best in any rpg for the snes. Unlike the Final Fantasy games released on the Snes, this game featured a run button, which makes the game less tedious. The menu driven combat is easy to follow and doesn't feature any fancy button pressing. If you don't like the initial control setup, you can also customize your controls. 2|screen03.jpg 9|10/10 1|There is nothing to complain about here. Although the game is shorter than some RPGs such as Final Fantasy III, the 10+ endings in this game will keep you playing this game over and over again. This game is incredibly fun and the story will keep you hooked the entire way through the game. The only thing that I found wrong with the game is that after finishing it a few times, I didn't feel as inclined to play it over and over like I did with Final Fantasy II and III. This is very minor, however. If you like RPGs, you must play this. And with the re-release of the game on the Playstation, there is no excuse to miss it. However, if you get the chance, get the snes version. This is one of the greats!
