Super Mario Kart is probably the most popular spinoff from the Super Mario series.  It feature all the main characters from the Super Mario series (as well as Donkey Kong), and pits them against each other in races.  The interesting thing is the use of items, that can be used as weapons or tools for shortcuts.  The rotational courses took the F-Zero formula to the next level.
