This prototype is part of a collection of loose EPROMs recovered by the Video Game History Foundation on behalf of an anonymous collector. This lot contained prototypes from various systems including Game Boy, Mega Drive/Genesis, SNES, Game Gear, 32X, NES, Turbo-Grafx 16, Atari XE and Master System. The prototypes for other systems will be released on other sites, such as Hidden Palace and SMS Power.

This is the second chip (out of six) of a prototype of Secret of Evermore. It definitely is different from the final version, but I speculate that the prototype is likely in a relatively advanced state, as there were some sections that do not differ. There are a few ASCII text strings in the binary, and they are identical to the final version. There are some graphics when viewed in a tile viewer, but they are compressed so it is not possible for me to check if they differ from the final. From a cursory view, some of them might be different. At any rate, maybe some dedicated Secret of Evermore fans will be able to delve into it more!

Unfortunately, the other chips were not part of this loose collection of EPROMs. If anyone out there has in their possession an incomplete prototype of Secret of Evermore, maybe this is the missing piece!
