Last fall (ed. note: originally posted April 26, 2008) d4s found this prototype of Batman Returns in a store in Japan. Batman Returns is a Final Fight style fighting game. To be honest, these sort of games aren't my cup of tea. This prototype appears to be near complete. It is missing the introduction cinema that is in the final version. Also the name of the first level is slightly different. If you lose all your lives in the prototype, you do not get extra lives, making this a rather difficult experience. When it came to the gameplay, the game was pretty much the same.

Although the prototype was found in Japan, everything indicates that this is actually a US prototype. The internal header is set to the USA region, and on the initial copyright screen, it says "Licensed by Nintendo". Indeed, the binary is quite a bit closer to the US version when directly compared. Therefore, I am classifying this as a US prototype.
